The exhibition 'Jorge Semprún. The Long Voyage’ is the culmination of the programme of activities organised by the Ministry of Culture of Spain to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Spanish writer, scriptwriter and intellectual, who was also the Spanish Government's Minister of Culture between 1988 and 1991.
Through various cultural activities, the event has been presented as an invitation to reflect on the relevance of his work, as well as to deepen our knowledge of his career, legacy and the era in which he lived, based on the challenges facing contemporary thought and literary and cinematographic creation.
The figure of Jorge Semprún is also an opportunity to raise the values that he defended in his life and work: solidarity, the defence of democracy and freedom against totalitarian impulses, the denunciation of barbarism and the vindication of fraternity.
In this sense, the event responds to the objectives of 'Culture with Memory' (Cultura con Memoria), under which the Ministry carries out its actions related to democratic memory, a priority line of transversal work.
The Ministry of Culture of Spain is grateful for the invaluable collaboration of all the institutions and organisations that have participated in this long journey on the Centenary of Jorge Semprún.
