Domingo Malagón, an enabler of other people’s lives

Domingo Malagón (1916-2012) crossed the border into France at the end of the Civil War. In 1945, when the PCE regrouped and reorganised in exile, Malagón—a painter and illustrator by profession— began his work as head of the “passages team” dedicated to document forgery. In 1977, Semprún himself referred to Malagón’s as “[...], a comrade to whom so many of us owe our freedom, and some of us our lives, because the documents he created or doctored were so extraordinarily similar to the real ones that there could be no suspicion.” The display of the technical equipment used by Malagón and his group to produce the forgeries reflects the precision of their work.
