The exile condition of several members of the Semprún family is told in the first part of the exhibition. The refugee files of Jorge, Carlos and Federico Semprún Maura are on display. This documentation is kept at the Office Français de Protection des Réfugiés et Apatrides in Paris, which houses 140,000 files on Spaniards and a file containing approximately 200,000 cardboard cards. The vast majority of these files relate to Republican exiles and their families, who sought asylum in France, with the extreme dates of the documentation being 1945 to 1981.
